The CUNY Advanced Science Research Center recently named Tong Wang, PhD, as the manager of its Imaging Facility.

Wang, who joined the ASRC from Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, specializes in multi-dimensional nanomaterial fabrication and characterization. He also has research interests in bio-inspired artificial molecular assemblies at nanometer scale, DNA nanostructure-based stimuli-responsive targeted drug delivery systems and structural characterization of native protein complexes by cryo-electron microscopy and single particle analysis.

His emphasis on interdisciplinary research makes him an ideal fit for the ASRC, where researchers from the five core initiatives — Nanoscience, Photonics, Structural Biology, Neuroscience and Environmental Sciences — interact on a daily basis in a building designed to promote intellectual cross-pollination.

The facilities that Wang will manage will house state-of-the-art imaging facilities that will include cryo-electron microscopes, transmission and scanning electron microscopes. These facilities will support the research of structural biologists as well as materials scientists.

About the ASRC: The new CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) is a University-wide venture that elevates CUNY’s legacy of scientific research and education through initiatives in five distinctive, but increasingly interconnected disciplines: Nanoscience, Photonics, Structural Biology, Neuroscience and Environmental Science. Led by Dr. Gillian Small, Vice Chancellor for Research and the ASRC’s executive director, the center is designed to promote a unique, interdisciplinary research culture. Researchers from each of the initiatives work side by side in the ASRC’s core facilities, sharing equipment that is among the most advanced available. Funding for the ASRC from New York State is gratefully acknowledged.
